Best Dressed Bumps of 2014

Best Dressed Bumps of 2014

12 February 2015

2014 saw some seriously stylish baby bumps.

Many of our style icons were pregnant and this gave us lots of marvelous maternity fashion to indulge in. At every red carpet event  mums-to-be were proudly showing off their fabulous maternity fashion, and they also proved their chic street style off the red carpet too.

Now we’re into the new year and new mums-to-be such as Keira Knightley and Zooey Deschanel are taking their spots in the maternity fashion spotlight.  But before this year gets underway we’re going to look back at some of our favourite maternity fashions from last year.

Blake Lively

It’s hard to know where to begin with Blake.  She perfected every single red carpet look – managing to look sleek, stylish and sexy.  She didn’t shy away from bold choices either, such as this rather risqué lemon, low-cut Gucci dress below.

But it wasn’t only her red carpet style that caught everyones attention.  The ‘Gossip Girl’ star also showed the maternity world how to nail city chic by wearing heeled boots and wonderful oversized coats and capes.

Blake also updated her lifestyle blog ‘Preserve‘ with some beautiful photos taken by her father Eric at her baby shower.  It’s clear to see that Blake was winning in the maternity fashion stakes.  We love this checked coat!

Drew Barrymore

Everytime we saw Drew she beamed with happiness and looked wonderful.  Sticking to bright floor-length gowns, Drew definitely knows what suits her bump the best.

This white Tory Burch dress looks divine and we love the golden clutch that she wore with it.

Her Vivienne Westwood Anglomania number added a quirky edge to her maternity style and then at the People’s Choice Awards she was a ray of sunshine in a white and lemon Vionnet gown.

And who could forget the gorgeous Monique Lhuillier dress?  Covered from head to toe in delicate fuschia pink and orange flowers, Drew looked sensational (see top).  Her matching lipstick and peep-toes complemented the outfit perfectly.

Kate Middleton

The first time that Kate was pregnant, her maternity style was impeccable so when we heard that she was expecting again, we couldn’t wait to see what she would chose this time around.  There were some high expectations but we’re certainly not disappointed!

Kate never fails to look sophisticated, elegant and beautiful.  Expectant mothers all over the world are closely watching her every fashion move.  As soon as she steps out in a new outfit, it sells out in days – sometimes even hours!

As her due date looms closer (she is due in April) we can’t wait to see what she will be wearing next.  She may only be five months pregnant but she has still made it to one of our top ten best dressed bumps of 2014.

Olivia Wilde

Olivia manage to nail everyday maternity fashion by wearing comfortable jerseys and teaming them with signature jackets and blazers. When asked in an interview for Lucky magazine where she gets her style inspiration from, she replied,

“When in doubt look to the French, for literally everything in life.  It’s just minimalism at it’s best”.

But not only did she look great in casual wear, she also looked stunning on the red carpet.  Usually choosing gowns from her favourite designer Gucci, for the Golden Globe Awards she wore a fabulous floorlength sequinned dress (see top).  For the Oscars she wore this beautiful monochrome Valentino dress (below).  With her elegant up-do and stunning makeup she looks absolutely sublime.

Olivia admitted that in the beginning she planned on trying to hide her baby bump, but this soon changed.

“I ended up getting kind of excited to show the bump, as a badge of pride. Like, I’m a woman! Look at me making a human! I am a goddess!”

After the birth of her gorgeous little baby Otis, Olivia caused some controversy by posing whilst breastfeeding for Glamour magazine (read about it here). It seems like Olivia is one proud mama – and so she should be!

Kerry Washington

Kerry Washington was another mum-to-be who stormed the red carpet and looked radiant everytime.   She wasn’t afraid to make some bold fashion statements as well.  To the SAG awards she wore a custom Prada crop top and voluptious black skirt which bared her baby bump.

She was a vision in white at the Golden Globe awards in a beautiful Balnciaga gown (see top) and showcased other beautiful dresses by Oscar de la Renta and Tory Burch, who was a very popular designer with our pregnant celebs last year.

But perhaps our favourite red carpet look for Kerry was this Jason Wu gown with carefully selected silver accessories and studded heels.

Simple yet stunning.

Ciara is definitely a Maman Cool.

The golden Pucci dress that she wore to the Grammy awards was amazing.  Covered in golden sequins with a plunging neckline and chic updo, all eyes were on the heavily pregnant star and she owned it.

Again, daytime wear didn’t prove an issue either, where she wore smart and elegant dresses by designers such as Bibhu Mohapatra.

At others times she opted for a more tailored maternity style.  Take a look at this Lanvin Homme suit for instance…

Yes, this is literally from the men’s collection and we think she looks great!  Who knew that mixing up something as masculine as a suit with something as feminine as maternity clothes would work?

Ciara we salute you!

Gwen Stefani

Gwen is one celebrity that we admire for sticking to her signature style, even throughout her pregnancies.  Gwen has her own clothes label LAMB and as this was her third pregnancy, we were all excited to see what she was going to bring to the maternity fashion table.

Similarly to Blake she rocked heeled boots and statement jackets to brighten up outfits.  We loved her monochrome moto jacket above, especially teamed with her own label LAMB boots which of course matched her trademark lipstick.

She didn’t forget her quirky style at special events either.  To the Performing Arts Inaugural Gala she dazzled in a fringed Salavtore Ferragamo dress which although not designed to be a maternity dress, looked incredible on a very pregnant Gwen.  Not long afterwards Gwen gave birth to baby Apollo.

Kourtney Kardashion

This was Kourtney’s third pregnancy, so she’d had some time to work on her own signature style.

For special events she made some bold and unique choices.   For example, this v-neck playsuit by Made for Pearl’s divided opinion.  While the white lace is really pretty and shows off her tan, the tight fit reveals her curves and the length of the trouser gives it an almost 70’s style.

But it wasn’t only her daring fashion choices during her pregnancy that got people talking.  Towards the end of the year Kourtney posed naked for an interview with Du Jour magazine.

When asked if she felt self-conscious posing naked, Courtney replied,

“To me, nudity is not something to be ashamed of. I’m not embarrassed of my body. I’m at my best when I’m pregnant. It’s such an amazing feeling, the transformation that your body goes through. There’s something about that that’s so empowering and beautiful and I just really embrace it”.

Pregnancy is most definitely an amazing time and we think Kourtney looks beautiful.

Kristin Cavallari

We’ve always loved Kristin’s style, ever since we first saw her on ‘Laguna Beach’ – and we love her maternity style even more!  She continues to look sharp and sleek, carrying off both leather and floral print trousers.

In addition to this she looked glorious at special events.  This boho look below is comfortable and beautiful, she teams the angelic dress with braided hair and an aztec themed bangle.

She also wore a stunning floor length embellished Alexander Mcqueen dress when she was talking about the Oscar fashion on E!  She looked like a Grecian goddess!

And finally, to finish we have the beautiful…

Zoe Saldana

Now Zoe had an even bigger task when it came to looking glamorous as she was pregnant with twins!  We absolutely adore the blue monkey-print Valentino dress teamed with her curled locks and golden arm bangle.  The next black silk dress is really luxurious and we want those black Saint Laurent heels!

Towards the end of her pregnancy Zoe was absolutely huge, and yet she still looked gorgeous and happy – even on the red carpet.  This flowing pink dress covered her baby bump perfectly whilst also highlighting her glowing complexion.

We couldn’t resist showing you this outfit too.  This Calvin Klein dress makes Zoe look angelic.  A perfect dress for work or to wear in the evening, this is definitely a winner!

A l’exception de Kourtney… Toutes ces femmes sont magnifiques ! J’aurais aimé porté d’aussi belles robes lors de ma grossesse.
